When I first joined Aire Global as a Level 3 IT Support Apprentice, I knew I was stepping into a role that would challenge me technically. What I didn’t fully realise was just how much the experience would shape my confidence, problem-solving skills, and understanding of what it truly means to be part of a supportive, fast-paced business. Looking back so far, this apprenticeship has been about far more than IT, it’s been about growth, trust, and becoming a valued member of the team.
Learning on the Job in a Real Business Environment
From day one, I was treated as part of the team rather than “just an apprentice.” Being immersed in a real working environment meant I was exposed to genuine challenges and responsibilities early on. Whether it was setting up hardware, resolving technical issues, supporting colleagues, or maintaining systems behind the scenes, every task contributed to my learning and development.
Rather than learning in isolation, I’ve been able to build my skills by solving real problems that directly impact how the business operates. This hands-on experience has helped me grow my technical ability while also improving my communication, organisation, and confidence when working with people across different departments.
Support, Mentorship & Company Culture
One of the most valuable aspects of my apprenticeship has been the support I’ve received from everyone at Aire Global. There’s a genuine culture of patience and encouragement — Derek, my mentor and IT Manager at Aire, is always willing to explain things, answer questions, and help me understand not just what to do, but why it matters.
Being trusted to take ownership of tasks has been a huge confidence boost. At the same time, knowing that support is always there has made it much easier to push myself and learn from mistakes. This balance of independence and guidance has played a huge role in my development.
The culture at Aire is something that really sets it apart. It’s a workplace where collaboration is valued, ideas are shared openly, and everyone feels approachable. From everyday interactions in the office to team socials and events, there’s a strong sense of belonging that makes coming to work genuinely enjoyable.
Developing More Than Just Technical Skills
While my role is centred around IT support, I’ve developed a wide range of skills that go beyond the technical side of the job. Communicating clearly with colleagues who may not have technical knowledge has been a key learning curve, as has prioritising tasks, managing time effectively, and staying calm under pressure.
I’ve also gained a much better understanding of how IT fits into the wider business and how reliable systems, security, and support, enable teams to work efficiently and creatively. Seeing this bigger picture has helped me appreciate the impact of my role and take pride in the work I do.
Growing in Confidence & Responsibility
As my apprenticeship has progressed, I’ve noticed a real shift in my confidence. Tasks that once felt daunting are now second nature, and I’m far more comfortable taking initiative and problem-solving independently. Being trusted with responsibility has encouraged me to push myself further and continue improving every day.
The encouragement I’ve received has made it clear that my development genuinely matters, which has motivated me to keep learning and refining my skills.
Looking Ahead
I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to complete my Level 3 IT Support Apprenticeship with the support of Aire Global, and their confidence in me means I am now working towards my level 4 apprenticeship. The experience so far has confirmed that an apprenticeship is an amazing way to start a career in IT, or any role by combining learning, real-world experience, and personal development.
I’m excited to continue growing within the company, expanding my technical knowledge, and taking on new challenges. This apprenticeship has given me a strong foundation, not just for my career in IT, but for my professional future as a whole.
Considering an Apprenticeship?
If you’re thinking about an apprenticeship and want hands-on experience in a supportive, welcoming environment, I couldn’t recommend it enough. Being able to learn, earn, and grow within a company that genuinely invests in its people has made all the difference for me.
